At the networked systems lab, we investigate the networked computing fabric that serves as substrate for future embodied AI systems. We evolved from the intersection of connecting moving nodes in heterogeneous environments with unlicensed access, mobile Internet of Things, and applications to intelligent urban mobility with focus on Cooperative, Connected Autonomous Mobility. We are currently exploring near real-time robotic use cases using distributed computation over private cellular networks for perception and control tasks.
We favour experimental and measurement-based methodologies. We operate a private 5g network with a softwarised split RAN, using a combination of advanced computing and software defined radio equipment, having adopted the Open Air Interface open source software stack. We designed and implemented 5G NR Unlicensed and demonstrated coexistence with 802.11p CCAM traffic and with WiFi. We own proven pipelines for researching energy consumption and latency at system to component granularity. Furthermore, our team leverages protocol analyser tools for deeper understanding the performance of commercial cellular networks.
Our past projects include Route25, FLOYD, S2MovingCity, MobiWise, Generation.Mobi, Future Cities, VOCE.
