Research in this group advances the state of the art in several conceptual, algorithmic, and application directions, all with a signal processing and machine learning substrate. The group has earned worldwide recognition and impact on efficient optimization algorithms for inverse problems, mostly in imaging. Another direction of work is on core tools for machine learning and pattern recognition. The group is also very active in the area of acquisition, processing, and analysis of bio-signals, including the development of new hardware and several applications in human-computer interaction and health monitoring. Finally, the group deals also with biometric recognition and automated surveillance, having as na ultimate goal to achieve non-collaborative automatic recognition of humans.
