José Azevedo, Pedro D´Orey and Michel Ferreira, were distinguished with the Best Paper Award for their work "On the Mobile Intelligence of Autonomous Vehicles”, in the International Workshop on Urban Mobility & Intelligent Transportation Systems – UMITS 2016, held in Turkey on April 25.

In their work, the IT researchers developed a taxi stand selection system that uses knowledge of passenger demand, leading to a decrease in distance/time travelled by each vehicle and thus improving their hourly revenue.

The IT research tem declared that “Receiving this best paper award is very gratifying. It is a recognition of the research community of the relevance of the work conducted for improving the mobility of future transportation systems, an area that has been less studied”.
