Vitor Cunha, Ph.D. student of the Doctoral Program in Informatics Engineering, supervised by João Paulo Barraca and Daniel Corujo from IT, both from DETI, was awarded the Altice International Innovation Award 2022 (AIIA 2022).

This year, 125 projects were submitted, including from Ireland, the country invited to participate in this edition, increasing the difficulty of deliberation by the jury panel.

Vitor Cunha won in the “Academy” section with the work entitled “Dynamic Defense for Softwarized and Virtualized Networks.” This project intends to be an innovative approach to face the current scenario of the prevalence of Cybersecurity risks that combines Moving Target Defense (MTD) techniques and two-factor authentication. It foresees the creation of a network defense/authentication layer that will move the attack surface (the potentially vulnerable function) observing all the available configurations and thus preventing or hindering the attack process. The project received a prize of 25 thousand euros.

This doctoral thesis (expected to be completed in December of this year) is being conducted in the scope of the European project H2020 5GROWTH.
