Orangel Azuaje Contreras defended his PhD thesis "End-to-End Delay Guarantees in Communication Networks: Bridging the Gap Between Analytical Methods and Experimentation" as part of the MAP-Tele Doctoral Program at Faculdade de Engenharia da Universidade do Porto. It was an exciting discussion with the jury: James Gross, Marília Curado, Daniel Corujo, Luís Almeida and Aníbal Ferreira.
We quantified trade offs between communication range and latency bounds for data collection over WiFi using network calculus. Also, we built a tool for long term measurement of end-to-end latency, proposed an automated method for applying extreme value theory to e2e latency tails in blackbox networks, and established the connection between 5G RAN parameters and a sawtooth pattern in the uplink latency.
