Mushahid Hussain, IT Porto PhD student, presented "Context-Driven Access Point Selection for Connected Vehicles Using Reinforcement Learning" co-authored by Ana Aguiar and Felipe França, at IEEE International Conference on Machine Learning for Communication and Networking, IEEE ICMLCN 2025, in Barcelona, Spain.
The paper shows how node mobility and wireless WiFi environment can be used by an RL-trained NN to decide when to switch association to a different small cell (WiFi) access point. Our results in multiple test streets show less switching ans higher throughput for the RL-trained NN.
Mushahid Hussain also presented his PhD research at the PhD Forum and participated in the 3 Minute Thesis competition, within a runner-up award.
