Simon Ranjith just presented our most recent work "Great Curveballs of Fire: ego-vehicle collision detection via a generalized spherical representation" at IEEE ICVES 2025, in Coventry, UK.
We introduce a novel ego vehicle and object representation inspired by computer graphics that allows for 1000x faster collision detection for assisted and automated driving. Joint work with Ozan Cetinaslan and Felipe M. G. França.
This work was carried out at Instituto de Telecomunicações under Route25 PRR - Recuperar Portugal project. It has also been integrated into the Pixkit platform with the collaboration of M Hassaan Khalid and Susana Sargento's group at IT Aveiro. The push to the Autoware Foundation code base is underway.
