On November 23rd, the University of Lisbon/Caixa Geral de Depósitos Scientific Awards will be presented in the University of Lisbon, at 5:30 pm.

Our researcher and Professor at Instituto Superior Técnico, Mário Figueiredo, is one of the awardees. His exceptional research contributions have garnered international recognition through high-quality and impactful publications.

Mário Figueiredo is our researcher, with expertise in machine learning and signal processing. He is an IST Distinguished Professor with the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering of Instituto Superior Técnico (IST) and holds the Feedzai Professor of Machine Learning endowed chair at IST. He is the coordinator of the Information and Data Sciences thematic line of IT and head of the Lisbon ELLIS (European Laboratory for Learning and Intelligent Systems) Unit. He collected awards and honors throughout his career, as examples: 2021 European Signal Processing Society (EURASIP) Fellow; Clarivate Analytics Web of Science highly cited researcher from 2014 to 2018; 2016 International Association for Pattern Recognition (IAPR) Pierre Devijver Award; 2016 EURASIP Technical Achievement Award ("For fundamental contributions to optimization algorithms for sparsity-based and wavelet-based signal processing"); 2014 IEEE Baker Award; 2010 IEEE Fellow ("For contributions to pattern recognition and computer vision"); 2009 IAPR Fellow ("For contributions to unsupervised and supervised learning, image analysis, and wavelet-based image restoration"). He is a member of the Lisbon Academy of Sciences and the Portuguese Academy of Engineering.
