BI/Nº10 - 11/05/2020 - PROVEN
Research position for a Research Grant (“Bolsa de Investigação“) is opened at Instituto de Telecomunicações, in the scope of the Project PROVEN funded by FCT/MCTES through national funds and when applicable co-funded EU funds under the project UIDB/EEA/50008/2020. The work for this position: Head orientation prediction for omnidirectional video streaming.
Networks and Multimedia
Multimedia Signal Processing – Lx
A minimum 3 year degree in electrical and computer engineering. Self-motivation for scientific research; ability for teamwork. Good knowledge of English language. Portuguese oral and writing skills will be considered as an added value. Knowledge of the principles involved in omnidirectional video communication. Good programming skills (C, C++ or Matlab). Applicants should be enrolled in a course within a higher education school/university in Portugal. Also, applicants must declared if they have or not been a grantee
Development of a method for head motion trajectory prediction, to be used in the context of omnidirectional video streaming; this will allow to optimize both client prefetching and edge server caching strategies, to ensure that the viewport watched by users have the best quality. To achieve this objective, recent past historical trajectory data and content analysis (e.g., visual attention models) should be exploited to predict the viewport evolution of a given user over time. Moreover, deep reinforcement learning solutions will be also investigated, as an efficient way to predict longer-term (i.e., >1 s) head motion trajectories.
A fellowship will be celebrated according to the regulations defined by FCT, “Regulation of Instituto de Telecomunicações’ fellowships” and ” Estatuto do Bolseiro de Investigação”, according to Law no. 40/2004, dated August 18 (Status of Scientific Research Fellow), in its actual redaction, and also by Fundação para Ciência e Tecnologia, I.P. Fellowship Regulation of Fundação para Ciência e Tecnologia, I.P.
