Acronym: TADFOLED |
Main Objective: The main objective of this proposal is the synthesis of new low-cost luminescent boron and copper(I) organometallic complexes exhibiting TADF and their application as emissive layers in the fabrication of highly efficient OLEDs. In the light of the team's excellent previous results on the boron compounds and recent preliminary results on iminopyrrolyl copper(I) complexes, the main guidelines for this proposal are: A) improving the emissivity and stability of the boron complexes, preferably emitting in the blue; B) Preparation of new iminopyrrolyl Cu(I) complexes of neutral bidentate (P,N), (P,S) and (P,O) ligands, towards the development of highly emissive TADF-exhibiting materials; C) Preparation of new mixed iminopyrrolyl boron-Cu(I) metal complexes bridged through organometallic linkers, towards the development of red and white light emitters. The syntheses of the new complexes will be developed according to synthetic organometallic methodologies referenced in the literature for these metals and ligands, which will be fully characterised (molecular and photophysical wise), enabling the assessment of the potential application of these compounds in electroluminescent (EL) devices. TD and TD-DFT calculations will be used to ascertain the origin of luminescence exhibited by the metal complexes and to rationalise the observed photophysical properties. LED structures of the type ITO/active layer/metal cathode will be fabricated in order to evaluate the EL properties of these metal complexes. |
