Acronym: STEROID |
Main Objective: Reinforce research, technological development and innovation Synthesis: There are numerous economic, social and environmental benefits associated with autonomous driving. However, the clearest long-term benefit concerns the increased security it provides in the use of these intelligent transport systems and which the European Union (EU) identifies as a priority. The growing number of ADAS / AD functionalities requires a platform capable of handling the exponential amount of tests and scenarios needed for the requirements validation phase. The number of integration and validation tests in conventional critical systems becomes exponentially unfeasible, where model-based approaches (MBSE) allow for digital disruption and the possibility of significant validation. Therefore, more important than finding a way to execute large test sets is to minimize them constructively using correct-by-construction methodologies. To address these problems, the STEROID project intends to focus on two aspects that we identified as essential and at two distinct levels: (i) strategic platform to support the creation of ADAS / AD systems through its testing and validation and focused on: a ) co-simulation of autonomous driving scenarios and traffic infrastructure by testing models, software or hardware in a simulated environment, where it is possible to evaluate the behavior of ADAS components and significantly accelerate test cases that in a real environment would have a low probability to happen; b) Continuous integration in the development process of simulators and HiL (Hardware-in-the-Loop); and c) use of formal models and consequent verification, to minimize the validation process by applying notions of correct-by-construction and filling in gaps for the purpose of ISO 21448 and in accordance with the IEEE P2846 standard, still under development. (ii) creation and / or expansion of a highly connected and intelligent ecosystem with V2X (vehicle to everything) communication infrastructures essential to accelerate technologies and the progress of infrastructures for autonomous driving systems in order to establish an industrial strategy at national and technological competitiveness in the global market.
