| PROJECT: | A Global Optical Network: seamless integration of Fiber and SatCom | |||||
| ACRONYM: | GLOB-N | |||||
| MAIN OBJECTIVE: | The GLOB-N project aims to establish a seamless integrated global backbone combining fiber and FSO-SatCom networks. A fully transparent interface between the optical ground station (OGS) and satellite is essential, eliminating optical-to-electrical conversion, reducing system latency, improving overall energy efficiency, and adding unprecedented network flexibility. In that sense, turbulence-induced power fading must be compensated optically through cost-effective approaches. Furthermore, due to the asymmetric resource availability (SWaP constraints) between the terrestrial- and satellite-based transmitters/receivers, the entire DSP framework must be redesigned to reduce complexity on the satellite side by implementing pre-compensation techniques. | |||||
