Creating and sharing knowledge for telecommunications

Project: Radio Techniques over Optical access Networks

Acronym: RaTON
Main Objective:
- study the advantages and disadvantages of this type of approach with respect to others like Optical CDMA, traditional Radio Over Fiber, and simple FTTH direct modulated distribution through ATM or other time or wavelength multiplexed networks
- study the implementation scenarios for this technology through the determination of its fundamental limitations in the pursued scenario (namely due to dispersion and nonlinear effects)
- Implementation of a field trial demo using adapted common terminals based on a radio repeater.
- Expandability options for having flexible bandwidth through the choice of codes, expansion of the network through wavelength division multiplexing or polarization division multiplexing, observation of new receiver options and techniques adapted to the particular non-linear transmission medium.
