Project: Integration of high-frequency dc-dc converters in RF CMOS SoC

Acronym: IRFDCMOS
Main Objective:
The main objective of this multi-disciplinary proposal is the development of RF CMOS Systems-on-chip (SoC) including resonant dc-dc converter resorting to low cost CMOS processes. The referred high efficiency converter should be capable of managing the power delivered by rechargeable cells and converting it to suitable voltage levels to supply other SoC functional blocks, namely RF and also sensitive analog blocks. In this fully CMOS compatible monolithic solution, the converter devices are switched above tens or hundreds of MHz, to allow the integration of passive energy storage elements.
This will motivate the use of those solutions in a wide range of applications, namely in battery operated portable equipment, like displays, medical portable equipment, and especially in electronic medical body implanted devices, where volume, efficiency and reliability are crucial.
