Acronym: CONPAC |
Main Objective: The project focuses on the design, optimization and demonstration of an all-optical packet switch, with a fixed length routing table (2 ports), transparent to short packets, at high data rate (40Gbit/s), implementing a simple contention resolution strategy. Its potential impact on both the present and future networks will also be assessed. The main driver of the optimization activities will be to achieve the best possible balance between simplicity, performance and integrability of these devices, since these are critical issues. Specifically, we aim to demonstrate a small packet switch, with a minimal routing table (2 ports) which is by looking for three main building blocks: 1. correlator and code; 2. switching device; 3. delay line or wavelength converter. The starting points: 1. time/wavelength codes with optical Fiber Bragg Gratings; 2. cross gain modulation of a SOA; a UNI gate; and a SOA based Mach-Zehnder interferometric gate. 3. fiber spool, self pumped FWM converter . |
