Digital visual compression technologies have been steadily evolving in the past 20 years with significant technological developments, impressive deployment of services and applications, and an amazing overall impact in our society. This impact is well expressed by the presence and effect in our lives of services and applications such as digital television, DVD, YouTube and Internet streaming.
Be it for audio or video, 2D or 3D, natural or synthetic data, compression tools and standards are at the foundations of more intense, immersive and rich TV experiences since other functionalities, such as interactivity, random access, scalability and error resilience, can only be well provided if adequate compression solutions are available.
In this talk, Pereira will talk about the present and future of visual compression technologies, and their impact on future TV experiences.
