Abstract
As a first step toward Smart Water Grid, we study
the suitability of LoRaWAN for smart water metering. Due to
the huge number of smart water meters to connect, we perform
pre-deployment studies to understand the capacity of LoRaWAN
network. Accordingly, we seek to determine the number of smart
water meters supported by a single gateway. Under NS3, we show
that one LoRa gateway is able to support approximately 1000
smart water meters with about 92% of packet delivery ratio. It
is also important to note that according to our simulations, we
observe that LoRaWAN is sensitive to the number of nodes.
