Abstract
Although the use of broadcast/multicast can greatly reduce the amount of radio resources required to convey the same media content to a group of users, it can also have a negative impact in the cell capacity due to common channels power requirements. Thus, an optimization study to the Multimedia Broadcast Multicast System (MBMS) was performed, including Macro Diversity Schemes and Dynamic Counting Mechanisms. In this paper an evolution of the Macro Diversity SChemes is proposed, based on the cooperation of the User Equipment (UE). In order to achieve this, a new algorithm was developed, the Layer Algorithm, by which UE's are segmented into layers and the cooperation is implemented between layers. Several variations of this algorithm and its main variables are analyzed to conclude about its performance in the power requirements reduction.
