Abstract
The development and implementation of new multimedia applications was made possible
due to the significant efforts from researches and developers which have striven to develop
bandwidth efficient communication systems, without considering the associated costs. As a
matter of fact, contrary to the scenario of voice applications, typical of 2G and 2.5 G cellular
networNs, these new multimedia applications are both energy and bandwidth consuming.
This has led to highly complex, power hungry devices, requiring advanced signal .
