Abstract
In this paper it is shown that a 248 nm UV laser commonly used for the inscription of silica FBGs can be successfully used for the production of PFBGs in POFs composed of different structures and materials. The success of the result is due to the modification of the refractive index under the incubation phenomenon, for which the ablation of the polymer material is not observed. Additionally, the time needed to inscribe a single PFBG is just a few seconds, a record time that has never been reached with any other UV radiation.
