Abstract
This paper compares the performance of the main optical burst switching resource reservation mechanisms, regarding their average burst blocking probability and maximum burst delay. Results of the comparison are given for ring networks with up to twenty nodes. The performance comparison methodology is based on an analytical network model, which produces results depicting the dependence of the performance metrics on a number of useful network parameters such as the average offered traffic load, the number of nodes, the link length and the node switching time.
