This paper presents a new electromagnetic shieldingtechnique based on carbon powder for applications in Cross-Laminated Timber (CLT). Electromagnetic characterisation of CLT is important for appropriate indoor radio planning and deployment of emerging wireless communication systems, and, where applicable, enhancement of CLT shielding effectiveness. The proposed technique consists of adding carbon powderbounded with acrylic paint to enhance the overall shielding effectiveness. Practical validation has been performed on individual CLT wall samples, bounded with an inner layer of polyurethane foam of about 2 cm of thickness. The foam is intended to provide enhanced acoustic performance while ensuring a good mechanic stability of the bounded solution. Radio measurements were made in an anechoic chamber in the frequency range of [0.68, 8] GHz, covering most of the frequencies used on modern radio communications (e.g. LTE, GSM,UMTS, Wi-Fi).
