Abstract
Resource reservation for data burst transmission in Optical Burst-Switched (OBS) networks is typically made on a link-by-link basis without awareness of the resource availability in the remaining network links. This paper highlights the impact of network state information availability on the performance of contention resolution strategies for OBS networks. This impact is evaluated through comparing the performance of the known Just Enough Time (JET) one-way resource reservation mechanism to that of a centralized mechanism using available network-wide state information. Contention resolution strategies exploring the wavelength and space domains are considered.
