Abstract
In 2002, the video coding community faced the emergence of a new video coding paradigm, the so-called Wyner-Ziv video coding, which was represented by two early solutions designed by the Stanford University and the University of California, Berkeley research teams. This paper intends to briefly review, and
compare these two early Wyner-Ziv video coding solutions, notably from the functional point of view. Moreover, this paper reviews some important developments of the Stanford Wyner-Ziv
coding architecture, which has become the most popular in the literature.
