The most difficult arithmetic operation for students is division and teachers often use mnemonics
for it. Global, procedural and conceptual understanding are the key for a successful teaching/learning
process. For that, this paper intends to present a proposal for didactics phases of the integer division
algorithm teaching. First it will be made a short contextualization to explain the ideas and theories that
support this propose and afterwards it will be explained, exemplified and illustrated.
