Abstract
This paperl is mainly devoted to wireless transmission issues and wireless system’s implementation in a water quality assessment system. In the first section some concepts about electromagnetic propagation will be presented. In the second section some important issues related with open space electromagnetic transmission will be addressed underlining their effect when the transmission link is over a conductive surface. A simplified analysis of communication impairments that can affect transmission’s quality, or even block the communication between network nodes, will be focused. The third section of this tutorial presents the main techniques that can be used to mitigate open space propagation problems presented in section two. A particular attention is dedicated to technical solutions that can be used to mitigate fading effects dedicating their application in spread spectrum communication systems.
In the last session a few experimental results of a wireless transmission system for a water quality assessment will be presented.
