The overall goal of the Optics and Photonics thematic line is to prepare the technological foundation for a future society heavily relying on photonics. It aims to push the science and technological boundaries for different areas of photonics, including fiber optical communications both long-haul or access networks, visible light communications, sensors, photonic integrated circuits, satellite communications, quantum communications, LIDAR for autonomous vehicles, or optical 3D printing.
